Baby Update

Today I had my first prenatal appointment and it went very well.  We got to chat with the doctor for a little while and discuss my concerns about the pregnancy.  My biggest concern was that I really want to do a natural birth, and I was worried that Dr. Johansen wouldn't be supportive of that.  Turns out it's just the opposite.  He is very supportive.

With my concerns about miscarriage he suggested that I have a hyper-coagulation panel done.  So we did that today, which tests whether or not I am clotting too much.  If it is the cause of my previous miscarriages and I am over clotting, then I would have to have shots through the rest of my pregnancies to keep the baby.  He also said that we can do ultrasounds as often as every two weeks if we would like to, so we are having another ultrasound next week just to make sure things are going as they should be.

My next appointment with Dr. Johansen will be February 27, when we will be able to hear the baby's heartbeat.  Very exciting!  New ultrasound pictures to come next week.

Our Little Cashew

We had our second ultrasound today.  The baby measured at 7 weeks, and 6 days, which changes my due date to September 5th.  The most exciting part is that we got to see the cute little heartbeat.  It was beating at 158 beats per minute, which is completely normal.  We also got to see it's arms and legs.  Yay!  We are so excited!

Baby update

Since I was only 5 weeks along at my last ultrasound, they scheduled another for the 24th, so that we can see the heartbeat.  They also rescheduled my first appointment with Dr. Johansen for the 30th.  I am still very sick, but everyone keeps telling me that's a good thing.  More updates to follow.

News

Well, I was reminded again this weekend that I haven't blogged in a while.  I do have an excuse, however lame.  I have been really busy with school and visitors, but I also haven't had much to blog, until now.  New Year's Eve I took a pregnancy test which turned out positive.

Since it was a holiday weekend, I had to wait soooo long to talk to my doctor's office.  Ok, not really, but it felt that way.  When I did get to talk to them, they set up an appointment for today for me to have an ultrasound done.  Normally they aren't done this early, as most of you know, but because I am high risk, they wanted to make sure everything is going as it should.  Turns out, everything looks great!  From measuring at this point, the technician said I am due around September 9th.  She said they will do an official due date when they can actually measure the baby, and not just the sac.

Next Tuesday, the 17th, I have my first appointment with my doctor.  We are so excited!

We know most people wait a while before saying anything, but we feel it will be through the prayers of family and friends that we will be able to get this baby here - and healthy.
